Product Details

The DataMetrix Census Boundary product provides the information you need to perform a detailed evaluation of markets down to the smallest available U.S. census geographic area, the block. It also provides additional census boundaries, allowing you to perform GIS analysis for a variety of geographic sizes.

The boundaries included in this product are:

  • Census Blocks - A block is the smallest geographic unit for which the Census Bureau tabulates data. Blocks are generally constrained by streets, legal boundaries and other features. Approximately 8.5 million blocks are identified in Census 2000.
  • Block Groups - A collection of census blocks within a census tract.
  • Census Tracts - These small statistical subdivisions of counties contain an average of about 4,000 persons.
  • Counties & Equivalent Areas - These are the primary divisions of most states. They include counties in 48 states; parishes in Louisiana; boroughs and census areas in Alaska; and independent cities in Maryland, Missouri, Nevada and Virginia.
  • States - Includes boundaries for all 50 states.
